The “Open Source” approach is an educational model inspired by the principles of open source in the world of technology, namely the free sharing of knowledge, transparency, collaboration, and accessibility. Translated into the school context, it means adopting an educational philosophy that:
Shares educational resources openly
Schools with an Open Source approach make educational materials, digital tools, teaching modules, and projects freely available, encouraging exchange between teachers, students, and other schools.
Promotes Collaboration
Instead of knowledge being transmitted vertically (from teacher to student), collaborative learning is valued, where everyone can contribute: students are co-creators of their own knowledge, not just users.
Adopts flexible and adaptable content and methods
The Open Source Curriculum can combine methodologies from different educational systems, adapting to the needs of the local school community. It is not tied to a rigid model, but evolves continuously.
Supports educational innovation
An Open Source environment stimulates experimentation and the adoption of innovative practices (such as the project-based learning, coding, media education, and sustainability), integrating open digital tools (such as free software and open platforms).
Promotes democratic and inclusive education
Open access to resources reduces inequalities and supports a more equitable school. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, autonomy, and civic responsibility.
